Based on the reports we received of what people felt in the earthquake (http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/ous/STORE/X2008ryan/ciim_display.html) it seems that your ancient and famous city of Xian experienced strong shaking, so I can certainly understand your concern. There are likely to be continued aftershocks in the vicinity of the mainshock in the coming weeks and months, but they will generally decrease in number and intensity.There is still the possibility (probably 5%) of another large earthquake, but we have no reason to believe that such a damaging earthquake would be close to Xian. Nevertheless it is important to take the Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety (http://www.earthquakecountry.info/roots/seven_steps.html).
